Discussion:
Clay Hart song "Spring"
(too old to reply)

I remember a popular song when I was a kid (late 60s) that was about a
father talking about his little girl growing up. The song had Spring in the
title. The only thing I could find in Google was Clay Hart's "Spring" in
1969. Would that be what that song was about? I can't find the lyrics or
anything else about the song.

Thanks,
Dave

I haven't heard this since 1969 or 1970, though I used to strum along with
it back then on my D-40.

My memory may be tricking "Spring" up with "See the tree how big it's grown"
and that damn "Sunshine" movie, but doesn't a) the mother die early in the
song, and b) the father raises the kid by himself? Does it end with her
getting married, maybe? And her name is definitely Spring.

The refrain is either "Spring, you've been a long time coming," or "Spring,
you've been a long time passing," or "Spring, I've been waiting a long long
time for you." It may include _all_ of those lines! If so, yeah, this is
the Clay Hart record; I don't know of anyone who covered it.

(Is this the one they wouldn't play on WSM because the little girl was
either implicitly or explicitly illegitimate? And if it isn't, what was
_that_ one?)

"See the tree..." would be part of the song "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro...

I did more checking today and it may be the same song Tanya Tucker did a
few years later...

Any chance you're thinking about "It'll Come Back"?
